Lively Up Your Bathroom With A New Vanity Medicine Cabinet

If you are planning on updating your bathroom, you should consider adding a vanity with medicine cabinet included. It's nice to have the advantage of a vanity, mirror, and medicine cabinet all in one unit.

The type of combined unit that has two, three, or even four mirrored doors that open at angles so you can see all sides of your hair is also really nice. If there is storage behind the panels it's even better. A vanity with medicine cabinet takes a little more space and effort to install, but is well worth the effort.

Vanity medicine cabinets come with or without lights, and in many different styles and finishes. Your choice will depend on the space you have to accommodate it, and on the budget you're working with.

The best units have at least three mirrored doors that open at different angles, so you can get a good look at your front, sides, and back all at the same time. You can purchase vanity units that don't include a medicine cabinet, but a vanity with medicine cabinet makes more sense.

Go online to search for the different styles and finishes available in vanity medicine cabinets, and then look for a list of dealers near you. Print pictures from the internet of what you want, to take with you when you go shopping.

Measure your bathroom to be sure there's enough room above the bathroom counter for the unit you want. Go shopping armed with these measurements, and perhaps a photo of the bathroom wall on which you want to install your bathroom medicine cabinet. This will save headaches later on.

As long as you're installing a vanity medicine cabinet, why not plan on upgrading the whole bathroom to go with the new unit? A new coat of paint is easy to apply, and will do wonders for the overall look of the room. Maybe you even want to purchase a few new bath towels to complete the look of your "new" bathroom.

If you're not handy, this is not a place to make mistakes like putting the vanity medicine cabinet in the wrong place, or installing it crooked. If you're adding lighting along with the new cabinet, make sure you have someone do the electrical work properly. The bathroom has water, so don't take a chance on giving someone an electrical shock.

When everything is done properly, your new vanity will create a brand new bathroom that is much better suited to your needs.

I think you're missing the point, Sang. The reason for dual vanities is so you don't have to live with your spouse's mess all the time. You can have your own sink set up any way you want it.

I also like the idea of a counter-top. But I think those his & hers double vanities are just a bit too cute. When's the last time you were in the bathroom the same time as your spouse, anyway?

I don't much like the term "vanity" either. But I like the idea of having the sink set into a counter-top. It gives you room to spread out all your stuff, so it's easier to use.

Why do they call it a vanity anyway? It's not vain to try to look your best. I have a job where I face the public every day, and I wouldn't keep it for very long if I didn't look in the mirror and try to make that face look as good as possible!

Should I Update My Bathroom With a Medicine Cabinet, Or Do the Full Enchilada?

By Alana Tanner
It's the last major room in our house that needs an update. The main upstairs bathroom, the primary for the entire house. It's not really a master bath since it's down the hall from the main bedroom, but it does have the only bathtub and is definitely the biggest bathroom we have.
